Youth Engagement
In May 2009, Touchstone developed a Youth Engagement Model, designed to allow TYC to collaborate with youth and strengthen the programs and services we provide and they access. There are 10 representatives that sit on the Youth Advisory Board (YAB). Each representative works endlessly to inform youth of the issues that affect youth and organize solutions that promote youth engagement and empowerment. YAB Representatives come from many different backgrounds and sub-cultures, and assist with establishing a holistic voice and perspective that best represent the youth population of Toronto.
Purpose
The formation of YAB was based on identifying and challenging the youth-related issues that are evident within the community of Toronto. The purpose of YAB is to ensure that youth gain leadership skills, identify and establish healthy relationships between stakeholders and youth that reside in the community. In addition, youth are supported and educated on the influence of engagement so that they, too, may have lasting contribution in making a difference.
Our Mission
“To help youth create a voice that will promote community engagement in order to build capacity for youth.”
Our Values
The TYC Youth Advisory Board (TYC-YAB) believes that all persons were born equal and must be treated as such, taking into account their cultural background, creed, age, sexual orientation and individual challenges. YAB was formed on the cornerstone of these values. We are therefore of the conviction that the mission and vision of the advisory board will be meaningless and unattainable unless members adhere to these core values.
